Bex Talks Sex Starting the Conversation
Just this Sunday, April 19th, thanks to the amazing Courtney Trouble, Tobi Hill Meyer, and Jacqueline Mary, the first ever Queer Porn Film Festival was hosted in Brooklyn. As you might imagine, it was pretty damn fantastic! There was Porn and Pancakes, discussion panels, workshops, and even a live porn shoot at the end of the night staring Courtney Trouble and Tobi Hill Meyer themselves.
Unfortunately I had to miss the second half of the Main Screening and Live Shoot1 because my anxiety decided that I suddenly needed to be home in my bed and not in the middle of Brooklyn. Fabulous. Shout out to Courtney Trouble for being super amazing and listing trigger warnings in the back of the program and being really accommodating and compassionate when I had to ask about one that wasn’t listed. They even had counselors on staff for anyone who needed them. I had such a great experience and the only reason I made it as long as I did through this random anxiety flare-up was because of the effort that they and all the other organizers put into making it such a safe space.
A safe space full of really hot porn. Did I mention that? LOTS of really hot porn. They featured over 35 scenes, all from fantastic performers and companies, some of which were totally new to me while others were old favorites. They even debuted some scenes from companies that have yet to launch! This is the cutting edge of queer porn people! Somehow, I managed to distill all of that awesome down to six scenes I saw at the Queer Porn Film Festival that you absolutely CANNOT MISS.
1. Damien Moreau- KANGOUROU & OH BOY Episode 3
Alright, so it’s my first suggestion and I’m already breaking the rules by listing two titles, but it’s my list and my site and I’ll do what I want. Plus, Damien Moreau is worth breaking the rules for.
KANGOUROU, the first film I saw from Moreau, was right at the beginning of the day and I was instantly captivated. Pretty gay boys, public masturbation under sweatpants, and a delicious fantasy seamlessly woven through all of it, what’s not to love? The best bit though? It’s free to stream on his site so I can watch it as many times as I want. YES.
Later in the evening during the Performer Showcase we were treated to even more from Moreau with Episode 3 of his new mini-series OH BOY staring the incomparable James Darling2. In contrast to the more artsy feel of KANGOUROU, OH BOY feels authentic and approachable. From the cute way James props the book up on the the bundle of his pants around his ankles, to the wine rack full of sex toys, to the interrupting phone call, this whole scene feels like a glimpse into what James really does on his days off.
2. Foxhouse Films- Alpha Sub
If you’re looking for something a little bit raunchier, Alpha Sub may be just the thing for you. Alyx Fox and Gaperiella Holl put three switches through a number of dirty field day-esque challenges, offering the winner the opportunity to dominate the two losers. I love games and playful competition so the premise alone was enough to have me excited about this film but the commentary from the judges and the use of one of my favorite dildos, the Vixskin Maverick, really sealed the deal. We only saw a small portion of the movie but it was certainly enough to peak my interest in watching the rest!
3. Trans Grrrls- Dyke March
More exhibitionism already? Maybe you’re sensing a theme?
In Dyke March the beautiful Chelsea Poe3 and Maxine Holloway meet up at the Dyke March and sneak off down a not so private side street to play. I couldn’t decide what I was more fun to watch, the naked girls or the people in the background as they noticed what was happening. I guess I’ll just have to watch it twice.
4. TRENCHCOATx- Graphic Depictions Episode 1
And we’re back to the artsy porn with Stoya’s4 newest project TRENCHCOATx (which she kindly warned us all “has a lot of straight sex on it right now” but won’t forever) and her directorial debut in Graphic Depictions. She certainly started with a bang casting Jiz Lee5 and Lily LaBeau for this backstage burlesque themed shoot. Oh look, another scene with the stunning Jiz Lee, how did that make it on the list…
This debut scene from new company CinéSinclaire features Jiz Lee, their fantastic Star Wars underpants, and Andre Shakti. It was cute and playful and well shot and really fucking hot.
